Faith

In modern American culture we often have trouble believing in the power of our Heavenly Father. Many people say they only believe in what they can see and feel. However, the Bible tells us that “we walk by faith, not by site” (2 Corinthians 5:7).

If you are like me, you don’t usually find yourself doubting the existence of God but sometimes we still have trouble believing that he can help us overcome the things that we are struggling with. Some days I look at all my problems and weaknesses and start to wonder if God can really help me defeat them. It is hard for us as humans to understand the power of God because there is nothing in all of heaven and Earth that can even compare to it.

An example in the Bible of Jesus demonstrating his power to his disciples is when they were crossing a lake. “As they sailed across, Jesus settled down for a nap. But soon a fierce storm came down on the lake. The boat was filling with water, and they were in real danger. The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and the raging waves. Suddenly the storm stopped and all was calm. Then he asked them, “Where is your faith?” The disciples were terrified and amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “When he gives a command, even the wind and waves obey him!” (Luke 8:22 - 25).

There is nothing that is greater than the power of God. He spoke the whole world into creation. Even the weather has to abide to his will. I kn

ow there might be things in your life that seem undefeatable whether it’s mending a broken relationship, battling cancer, or simply passing a hard class. Whatever it might be, God is going to get you through it.

One mountain in my life that God has helped me overcome, was being able to catch up with my grade in school. Because I have ADHD and Dyslexia, I struggled to learn to read, spell, and do math. By second grade I was already far behind my classmates and so my mom decided to have me redo second grade. She was becoming very worried about my struggles in school and began praying for me every day. Not long after she started praying for me, I started to learn to read and my math skills grew. Finally in fifth grade I was able to stop going to the resource room for extra help and after sixth grade I was officially taken out of special ed. I also was able to skipped seventh grade to catch up with my graduating class. Overcoming dyslexia and ADHD wasn’t essay and there were times that I didn’t think that I could ever learn to read and be able to be back in my original class but God never gave up on me. Instead, he carried me through it every step of the way. On my own I probably would never have been able to do it “but with God all things are possible” ( Mark 10:27).
