On August 20th, I held the first ever C.A.N Sisters’ Ministry retreat called “Who Am I?” named after the Bible study I taught over the three days. Those three days we were able to grow closer to God and each other as we spent time in God’s word and having fun.
Once the girls arrived I showed them around the campsite and showed them my aunt’s horses. Then we all piled into the van and drove to the Camp Sherman store where we bought our youth pastor a birthday present. Outside we fed cheetos to the fish in the Metolius river and went on a hike along the river. After that we went to a swimming pool.
That evening at 7pm I led worship on my guitar and sang a song called “Good Good Father” and taught the first day of my Bible study. I taught about Satan and how he gets us to make agreements about ourselves that aren’t true. I also talked about how, with God’s help, we can break these agreements. After I was done teaching, I gave the girls an opportunity to write down some agreements that they had made with the enemy on a strip of paper and burn it in the campfire. Each girl chose to burn some agreements. When they had finished, I gave them some time to spend with God praying and listening for his voice.
The next day we went to my aunt’s horse ranch and I taught all the girls how to groom a horse, lead it around the arena, and to ride. After we finished, we went to the pool again. That evening my friend Kelsie led worship singing “Lead Me To The Cross” acapella and then I lead the second Bible study session. I talked about how God sees us, learning to hear God’s voice, and how to sees ourselves the way God sees us. I read to them some different Bible verses about what God says about us and I also read a story in the Old Testament about a boy named Samuel learning to hear God’s voice (1 Samuel 3: 1 - 10). Each girl said that they had heard God’s voice before. It was amazing to hear all the different ways that God had spoken to each girl.
The third day we woke up at about 8 o’clock to eat breakfast and then have our last Bible study session. I led worship singing “Here I Am To worship” acapella. The session was about learning to spend time with God. I taught about how important it is to pray and spend time in God’s presence everyday to be able to grow in your faith, learn how to stand firm against the enemy’s lies and temptation, and learn to sees yourself the way that God sees you. I also taught about some different ways to pray and hear God’s voice. When I was finished teaching, we prayed for each other and that we would have a safe drive home. Then we packed up all our stuff and headed home.
The C.A.N Sisters’ Ministry’s first girl’s retreat went really well. I hope that God spoke into each girl’s life in powerful ways and we all had a lot of fun. We also all stayed safe. Thank you so MUCH everyone who supported us with all your prayers and everything you did to make this retreat possible!
