No More Worries

How often do you worry? What do you tend to worry about? I worry all the time. I worry about just about anything that crosses my mind, and probably most people (at least if they were completely honest) would say that same thing about themselves. It’s in our human nature. We worry about our money, school and/or our jobs, our grades and reputation. We worry about what we are going to wear, eat, and drink and about what other people think of us. But why do we worry? The answer is we are afraid of the things we dread happening coming true. This is because we know that we don’t have complete control over our lives. But what if there is someone greater out there who does?

Look at the birds.........

In the book of Philippians in the Bibles is says, “don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus, (Philippians 4 : 6 - 7). Instead of worrying about your troubles, pray about them. We can experience God’s peace if we let go of our worries, but that is easier said than done. Worrying about our problems won’t solve them, but trying to forget they’re there can’t either. This is often what confuses people when they read this Bible verse, but what they don’t understand is that we don’t have to worry because God is in control and he will take care of us. Jesus goes deeper into the subject in the sermon on the mount. He tells the people listening, “that is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life-whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn't life more than food and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, yet your heavenly father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” (Matthew 6 : 25 - 27). We can trust God to help us with our problems.

One of the things that I tend to worry about the most is my grades. This is because I struggled to learn to read when I was younger. Ever since I left the special ed room when I was in fifth grade, I have been afraid that I will start to struggle in school again and have to go back. I was terrified of missing a single day of school because I didn’t want to fall behind and I would freak out any time that I was having trouble understanding a concept or having trouble keeping up in class. Then one day in sixth grade when I was sitting in science class, God asked me why I was so afraid of falling behind in school. He told me to give my worries to him because he is it control. He continues to teach me to trust him, and everyday I get a little better at letting go of my worries. We really have nothing to be afraid of in the arms of Jesus because he is in control of everything and he loves us too much to not take care of us. All we have to do is give your whole lives to him, do what he asks of us, and trust him. It’s as simple as that.
