Like a Wave of Hope

It came like a wave of hope,

Crashing over me and drenching me in joy.

I could never explain it,

Nor could I replace it.

It came like a voice of peace,

But without a word or sound.

I was feeling depressed,

When he change my life!

It came like a gentle whisper,

Yet enough to save a soul.

Same may say that it was only my thoughts,

But I know my savior’s voice.

And he comes like a wave of hope!

I wrote this poem in English class when learning about poetry. We were supposed to write about a good memory and turn it into a poem. I chose to write about the first time I heard God’s voice, because it was one of my favorite memories. I was sitting in the car with my mom. We were alone because my dad and older brother had gone to go get ice cream. I didn’t want to come so my mom decided to stay with me in the car. I had been feeling depressed and she was worried about me. I had be hearing a lot of accusations from Satan, and I was struggling with shame. As we sat there, my mom turned to my and told me that Satan wants us to live in chains, but Jesus can set us free if we let him. At this very moment the Holy Spirit reminded me of a song called “No More Chains” by Nicole Nordeman. I had never understood was it meant by “no more chains”I thought that it was talking about real chains but at the moment The Holy Spirit showed me in a way that no one else could. This was that first time I heard God’s voice. He has changed me and given me a hope and a reason to live. No one but God could have done that. I will never be that same!

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
