Facing My Fear of Cantering

Kappy trotted around the arena. I mustered all the courage I had ,and then reached my crop back towards Kappy’s back end while keeping my eyes focused on the path ahead of me. Finally, as we approached the E on the arena wall, I gave Kappy a tap with my crop. Kappy, tail high in the air, ears twitching with excitement, began to gain speed and his movement became smoother, but as we reached the window Kappy went back to a trot and then he stopped.

me on a trail ride with Kappy.

Kappy is always curious and is easily distracted. This window is probably the thing that distracts him the most, because it is extremely hard to keep him from stopping here. I normally would be frustrated with him for stopping ,but I was in too good of a mood to notice. I had just realized that that was the first time me and Kappy had cantered after the trail riding accident.

Ever since that trail ride, I had been terrified of cantering ,and not just cantering either. Every time I just sat in a saddle on a horse I would be physically shaking. Today was the day that I conquered my fear, and that was probably one of the first times I had really faced my fear of horseback riding.

After overcoming my fear of cantering I began to find it easier to face my fears in other circumstances. For example, for those of you who don't know me, I have a tendency of being shy. People began to tell me that I was less shy then I used to be. This often happens when you face a fear that you have been wanting to face for a long time but have lacked the courage to do it. Courage spreads and helps you conquer other fears.
