How I Learned To Read

I have always grown up in a family that believes in God and what he did for us on the cross, but I didn't really start my own personal walk with Christ until my teen years. This is the story of how Jesus changed my life.

I was born a very feisty, outgoing child. I was very stubborn and ,for the most part, I had a good self- esteem. When I started school I suddenly became very shy and I started to lose confidence in myself. This was because I was struggling academically in school. My teacher soon started to notice my struggles too. I found it almost always impossible to concentrate and I had a tendency to to write my numbers and letters backwards. I mainly struggled with reading, spelling, and math, but as you can probably imagine, not being able to concentrate and not being able to write my numbers and letters correctly can make all subjects in school difficult. As my classmates increased in their academic abilities and knowledge, I just fell farther and farther behind. My high self- esteem decreased to practically zero at this time. My teacher became concerned with my lack of progress so she informed my parents about the situation. Not to long afterwards, my doctor diagnose me with ADHD and dyslexia. The ADHD was mainly what was affecting my ability to concentrate,t and the dyslexia was causing me to write my numbers and letters backwards. I interpreted this all as that I wasn't smart, and I got the message from Satan that I had no talents.

When I was in third grade I moved with my family to Lafayette, Oregon and I went to school in Dayton. My mom decided to have me re-do a grade to give me a chance to catch up, so when I started at my new school I was put in second grade. My mom also prayed for me every day and I instantly started to make progress. I stopped flipping my numbers and letters and I took off in my reading and math skills. Once I noticed that I had gained the ability to read, I started reading every night and I read at any opportunity I got.

This was how God taught me to read, and it is the beginning of the story of how he changed my life. I am Natalie Bergquist and I am part of The C.A.N Sister' Ministry. To learn more about this ministry go to your Wix ADI website and to ask questions email me
